We have been informed by our local associate in Myanmar that the Myanmar new Trademark Law is expected to be enforced in the first week of March 2023. With the new law in place, the current registration system, namely, registering the Declaration of Ownership of Trademark (DOT) with the Office of Registry of Deeds (ORD) will be terminated.
In case the client wishes to register the trademark under the current system (registering DOT) and re-file the application under the new law during the soft opening period, please let us have the instructions as soon as possible and the original documents should reach our office by January 23, 2023 at the latest.
For the trademark owners who already registered the DOT and wishes us to re-file the application during the soft opening period, please let us have your instructions together with the following information and documents within January 31, 2023.
- Scanned copy of registered DOT
- Scanned copy of cautionary notice, if any
- Passport number (for individual)/ Company/organization registration number (for juristic person)
- Clear trademark specimen (in JPEG)
- Translation and transliteration of the mark, if contains foreign language other than Myanmar language or English)
As the official fees still have not yet been announced, we cannot provide our professional fees at the grand opening stage at this moment. Our services at soft opening filing will be complimentary basis.
We urge all the trademark owners to take action immediately. Trademarks registered under the current system will lose its rights once the new law comes into effect, if not re-file under the new law.
