Our local associate in Myanmar has informed that the Myanmar IP Department is holding a meeting “Discussion of matters relating to the enforcement of Trademark Law” with trademark representatives and business owners in Yangon.
During the meeting’s first day, March 8, 2023, it was disclosed that the Trademark Law is planned to be enforced on April 1, 2023.
According to the meeting, the following are matters to be proceeded after the enforcement of the Trademark Law.
- To issue the Order forming the IP Agency
- To issue the Order for an announcement of official fees for trademark registration
- To issue a notification for an announcement regarding to methods of official fees payment
- To issue a notification regarding the opening of the offices to collect official fees and accept applications filed as per the Order no. 63/2020
- To collect official fees for trademark registration filed as per the Order no. 63/2020
- To accept all applications for trademark registration (at grand opening)
We wish to reaffirm that as soon as the new trademark law comes into force, the current registration system will be terminated.
